Gruizig is een nieuwe clubavond waar gitaarstijlen als postpunk, shoegaze, noise etc. centraal staan. Baroeg organiseert deze eerste avond op 28 maart in samenwerking met SoundVille, locatie Oldegaarde 4 Rotterdam.
Kill Your Boyfriend (IT psych / post-punk / darkwave / shoegaze)
Op de eerste editie van Gruizig presenteren wij de Italiaanse formatie Kill Your Boyfriend met als support de Rotterdamse shoegaze-formatie Death By Audio. De muzikale omlijsting van deze avond is in handen van DJ Dragnet (In Depth Music) & DJ CO2 (Wavefest/Modern Victims). Kill Your Boyfriend, opgericht in Venetië in 2011, is geen onbekende in de Rotterdamse underground scene. Eerder speelde de band al in Perron tijdens Left Of The Dial (2022) en op V11 in 2023. De liveshows van deze Italianen zijn overrompelend, energiek, woest én dansbaar. Tijdens hun Europese tour in 2024 doen ze dus wederom Rotterdam aan, dit keer in het knusse SoundVille.
Death By Audio (NL noiserock / post-punk / shoegaze)
Het Rotterdamse Death By Audio speelt shoegaze in haar puurste vorm, denk aan bands als Slowdive, The Jesus and Mary Chain en My Blooody Valentine. In hun muziek hoor je echter ook invloeden van bands als Ride, The Cure en Interpol. Death By Audio is luid en betoverend en is een waardige opener van onze allereerste Gruizig editie.
DJ CO2 kan als bedenker van Gruizig uiteraard niet ontbreken. Gruizig ligt in het verlengde van de Wavefest & Modern Victims avonden waar minder ruimte is voor het hardere gitaarwerk. Deze avond zal hij dan ook een andere muzikale kant van postpunk belichten. DJ Dragnet is uiteraard ook geen onbekende meer in de postpunkscene, hij draait op diverse (inter)nationale feesten en vanavond weer eens in Rotterdam!

The Mistress Of Jersey
The Mistress of Jersey is een tributeband uit Gent, opgericht om de hoogtijdagen van The Sisters of Mercy terug tot leven te brengen. Ze spelen het beste van de Sisters, van het begin tot de release van de iconische plaat ‘First and Last and Always’ en de split van de band in “85, en doen dit in de stijl van hun optredens in de periode 1984-1985. Denk aan de ‘Black October ‘ en ‘Tune in, turn on, burn out’ tournees, en je weet wat je kan verwachten. Nummers als ‘Temple of love’, ‘Marian’, ‘Alice’ en al die andere donkere dansvloervullers zullen voorbij komen.
Pure Kult
Deze Belgische tributeband focust zich vooral op de beginjaren van The Cult. Zanger Bart draagt probleemloos de unieke stem van Ian Astbury en ook de gitaarriffs van gitarist Joeri klinken nagenoeg zoals die van Billy Duffy in de toptijd van de band. Het was Duffy zelf die Pure Kult omschreef als ‘a pretty good version, possibly better than we could do it’. Pure Kult laat de mijlpalen van deze Engelse grootmacht voorbij komen met een set nummers van albums als ‘Love’, ‘Electric’ en ‘Sonic Temple’. Een heerlijke openingsact voor deze 80’s & More! avond.

Tijdens de SoundFresh avonden krijg je frisse (inter)nationale bands voorgeschoteld, waarvan je mogelijk later kunt zeggen ‘ik was erbij toen…’
Met de eerste SoundFresh pakken we direct uit met een internationale band die op doorbreken staat, de UK-act SCOTT HEPPLE AND THE SUN BAND. Deze psychedelische rockband uit Newcastle is geïnspireerd door artiesten als Neil Young, Black Sabbath en Ty Segall. Deze inspiratie hoor je terug in hun rauwe analoge 60’s en 70’s sound.Maar laat je niet foppen,Scott Hepple and The Sun Band klinkt uitermate origineel en modern! Om hun album ‘Ashes to Wildflowers’ te promoten reizen ze Europa door en doen ze Rotterdam aan tijdens ‘Left Of The Dial’ in oktober én zijn ze dus te zien tijdens SoundFresh in SoundVille.
Als special guest hebben we de Rotterdamse act Sticky Sweet weten te strikken. Sticky Sweet brengt een dynamische mix van punk, stonerrock, funk en blues. Voeg hierbij de overtuigende zang van frontman Lorenzo de Rooij en je begrijpt direct waar SoundFresh voor staat.

An alternative, gothic, new wave rock/pop band from Rotterdam, The Netherlands. Lasting for over 3 decades, The Essence proved to have made music that stands the hands of time. In 2018, with all tracks digitally remastered, Cherry Red Records released "35 the collection", a 5 CD’s compilation box of the complete works from 1984 to 2018.
WHITE ROSE TRANSMISSION (WRT)
White Rose Transmission is a musical project which initially consisted of Adrian Borland and vocalist Carlo van Putten. It started in 1995 when Adrian Borland (The Sound) started working together with a singer Carlo van Putten (Dead Guitars & The Convent). WRT currently includes besides Carlo van Putten, Thomas Marcin formerly from the Dutch band Aestrid.

Hayes & the Rhythm Slaves
Making his first steps learning to play the guitar at an early age, John Hayes was inspired by artists such as Little Richard and Chuck Berry.
But the biggest impact and influence on the development of his signature guitar style was made by Jimmy Hendrix, Jeff Beck and Santana.
This led him to become the guitarist for the legendary funk rock giants Mother’s Finest.
His new band
Hayes & the Rhythm Slaves was founded after singer/guitarist John Hayes in a dream was abducted by aliens: The Annunaki.
These lifeforms once created mankind (so they say) and will return very soon to harvest. Hayes must warn humanity for this decisive event. He does so by scattering an inescapable wave of genuine seventies hard rock on us humans.
Backed by Bad to the Bone’s widely respected rhythm section. The power trio starts it’s world tour on September 23 at SoundVille in Rotterdam.

De jonge honden van IFTC zullen weer een doorsnede spelen van het geweldige oeuvre van The Cure, dat wordt meebleren. Zoals je gewend bent van de 80’s & More! avonden in Baroeg kun je na de band weer je schoenzolen verslijten. DJ CO2 zal je weer verblijden met al het moois dat de jaren 80 op het gebied van new wave heeft te bieden met af en toe een uitstapje naar de ‘more’.

Whilst the paint on the walls of SoundVille is still fresh, we’ve already found another legendary name to perform at our cozy stage in the south of Rotterdam. After the overwhelming success with the 80’s new wave band 'Sad Lovers And Giants' which sold out in no time, we’ve managed to get another big international name in music history: Miko and the Soulpoppers. Doesn’t ring a bell? Well… Miko was guitarist in Sheila E.'s band for years, later he formed The Revolution with a number of other musicians. Indeed, the band of none other than PRINCE. Miko played with Prince during the 'Sign o' the times' and 'Lovesexy' tours and contributed on various Prince albums.
After his time with Prince, Miko wandered around the world, he was a DJ in Ibiza, promoter of jam sessions in small clubs and even taught actor Eddie Murphy how to play guitar. Together with Eddie Murphy he gave an unforgettable performance at the prestigious Montreux Jazz festival in 1993.
For the past 5 years Miko lived in Ibiza, wrote new songs and formed a new band: Miko and the Soulpoppers. For the first time he will perform this new (according to insiders promising) material with his band in SoundVille and you can be there!
